SONGWRITING IS A LEARNED CRAFT

Songwriter's, lyricists and writer's in general enjoy telling a story and they learn to look at life, living and conditions as fodder to craft and tell a story.

Some say you have to have an aptitude for it and have special skills but that's not true. I know songwriter's that have made millions with their songs that didn't graduate high school (not that I'm promoting that, mind you). I also know songwriter's that have made millions that are graduates of Juliard or Berkley, doesn't matter. Some of our best can't play an instrument but have written beautiful, time tested melodies, point is, this is a learned craft and anyone can do it, if they have the desire to learn and succeed!!!
Having an aptitude towards something simply means you have a strong desire to succeed at something and that you really enjoy it....we don't really start off life with very many skills, you know...they're developed thru the years with help from others. I'm sure many of you had teachers in school that inspired a love for doing something. And later you pursued that and found some success at it. But others would say, you had an aptitude for it, but in reality a teacher inspired that so called aptitude and it was something you enjoyed doing and you followed through...

How to give their songs energy, emotion and a "stamp" that people remember

We'll work in my studio and record your songs as we go WITHOUT your having to pay normal hourly studio rate

If you're from the area, we work together "one on one" in my private studio

If you're a beginner, I teach you how to write songs from scratch, even if you've never written a song but always wanted to or you just have the desire

If you've got songs started, I'll help you take what you've got and craft it to a finished song

If you write lyrics or poems, I'll help you craft those into finished songs

Don't play an instrument? Doesn't matter, I work with both....

Want to learn an instrument? I have a very simple method to learn guitar and keyboards

We work in my private studio, where both the instruments and Professional recording equipment are there to not only help craft your songs but take them to completed demos or even Master "Radio Ready" Productions.

We'll also discuss some of your options. How do you make money as a songwriter? As a Lyricist? What's a Co-Writer? What are your options, legal and otherwise? How does the publishing thing work? What's ASCAP, BMI and all that stuff? What about copyright? How do I protect myself?

Once we begin, we'll establish communication be it phone, email, etc. and I try to always be available to assist with questions, difficulties learning new material, difficulty with exercises, etc. and even song tracks we're working on can be sent to you for rehearsal.

Click on the "Contact Me" button on your left and fill out your contact information. Be sure and leave me the best times to call you and once we make contact, we'll further discuss any details and questions you have.

About half of all songwriter's can also sing or in a lot of cases, simply choose not to and in some cases the song would be better rendered by a vocalist who has the strengths that bring out the best of the song. Maybe you need a singer with a wider range. Maybe a singer that specializes in blues, pop, folk, country, christian or jazz, etc. I've got those singers available.

Personally I find it very rewarding when someone sings one of my songs, and brings a new and different perspective to it. Once we've determined how we're going to proceed, we'll work towards arranging, tracking and what instruments we want to use as we record your song.

I can help to explore chord choices, melodic choices and then get immediate feedback as to whether we like our choices or not.
If your song already has a melody, we'll examine the melody to see what does and maybe doesn't work. Is your melody different? What's different about it? Is it too complicated or should it have more movement? Does it work with the lyrics and move the lyrics in a positive and entertaining manner? For lyric's, we'll discuss wording, phrasing, feeling, emotion, structure etc. and all the parts of what makes a great lyric. How to make your song stand apart?
